Softball Remains No. 2 In Latest NCAA DII Southeast Region Rankings

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong State University softball squad is ranked second in the latest NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, released today by the national committee.

The Pirates (31-11) remain in the second spot behind North Georgia (44-10), but the next eight spots saw a big shakeup. Limestone (39-9) moved up to third, with Carson-Newman (39-11) fourth and Lenoir-Rhyne (44-9) fifth. Young Harris (42-12) comes in at sixth, followed by Pfeiffer (40-4) in seventh, Flagler (37-19) in eighth, Georgia College (30-19) ninth and Anderson (SC) (34-14) in 10th. 

The regional rankings are used by the selection committee to determine who will compete in the upcoming 2017 NCAA Division II Softball Championships. Eight teams will advance with three automatic bids going to the tournament champions of the Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas. Five at-large berths will also be selected, with the announcement of participating teams being made on May 7th.

The top two teams will host a four-team sub-regional on May 11-13, with the winners of the two sub-regionals advancing to the highest remaining seed site for the NCAA DII Southeast Super Regional on May 18-19. The winner will then advance to the DII Championships in Salem, Va., on May 25-29. 

The next NCAA DII Softball Region Rankings will be released on Wednesday, May 3rd, with the selection of the NCAA Championships participants coming on Sunday, May 7th.
