Tori Bates Named PBC Softball Pitcher of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong State University senior Tori Bates has been named the Peach Belt Conference's softball Pitcher of the Week, announced today by league officials.

After missing most of the season due to an injury, Bates returned to action and picked up a pair of important Peach Belt wins for the Pirates last week. The  righthander from Douglas, Ga., hurled 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief, striking out one, to defeat Georgia College 9-3 on Tuesday.  She then picked up her first shutout of the year in the Pirates' 8-0 win over Augusta on Friday, giving up just two hits while striking out three. For the week, Bates went 2-0 with an 0.00 ERA.

This is the fourth career PBC Pitcher of the Year award for Bates, who earned the honor once as a sophomore in 2014 and twice last season as a junior.

Bates and the second-seeded Pirates open up action in the 2017 Peach Belt Conference tournament on Friday, April 21st, facing seventh-seeded Montevallo at 11 a.m. in Milledgeville.
