Pirates Win Ninth Straight, Down Pacers 3-1


SAVANNAH, Ga. - Four Armstrong Atlantic State players recorded double-digit kills as the Pirates picked up a 3-1 Peach Belt Conference volleyball victory over visiting USC Aiken on Saturday in Savannah.

The Pirates (22-7, 9-2 PBC) notched their ninth win in a row while handing USC Aiken (13-15, 5-7 PBC) its sixth loss in a row. AASU also kept pace with PBC-leading Flagler, who defeated Lander, 3-0, on Saturday. AASU will visit Flagler on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match that will decide who is in the driver's seat for the PBC regular season title heading into the final weekend of play.

AASU hit .352 for the match, its third-highest hitting percentage of the season coming off of last night's season-high .430 against Lander. Marina Marinova led the way with 13 kills, to go with 11 digs, while Amy Birkemeier added 12 kills and Kathrin Standhardinger and Michele Remlinger each collected 11 kills. Remlinger hit .647 with no errors in 17 attempts and added six blocks for a second straight night. Kristin Standhardinger tallied 46 assists and 10 digs, while Casey Howett notched 13 digs.

For the Pacers, Lindsay Mortenson led the way with 15 kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Lauren Cedeno tallied 20 assists and Whitney Tabbert added 17 assists, while Samantha Lukralle led all players defensively with 15 digs.
