Novakova Wraps Up Play At ITA Indoors


WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Armstrong Atlantic State sophomore Sona Novakova earned a straight-set win on Friday afternoon at the 2009 ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships, moving into the consolation quarterfinals at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on the campus of Yale University.

Novakova defeated Mari Andersson of California, 6-1, 6-1, on Friday afternoon - Andersson came into the tournament ranked No. 26 in NCAA Division I. 

The top-ranked player in Division II then lost to Laura Vallverdu of Miami (Fla.) on Saturday, 6-3, 6-3. Vallverdu is currently ranked sixth in NCAA Division I and came into the Indoors as the third-seeded player in the field.
