Novakova Suffers Tough Three-Set Loss At ITA National Indoors


WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Armstrong Atlantic State sophomore Sona Novakova suffered a first-round loss at the 2009 ITA National Collegiate Indoor Championships on Thursday, bringing an end to the AASU fall tennis season.

The "Super Bowl" of Small College Tennis winner and the only non-Division I player in the field, Novakova was bested by Baylor's Lenka Broosova, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 7-6 (5). Broosova is the No. 23-ranked player in NCAA Division I.

In one and a half seasons with the Lady Pirates, Novakova has compiled a 50-5 overall record but is undefeated against NCAA Division II opponents.

Play continues for Novakova with a consolation match against Mari Andersson of the University of California at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Andersson is ranked No. 26 in Division I.
