AASU Women's Soccer Enters NSCAA DII Top 25 Poll At No. 12


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer team leapt into the NSCAA Division II Top 25 coaches poll today, entering the poll at No. 12 - the highest ranking for the Pirates in nearly two seasons.

Coming off of two shutout wins in the 2009 AASU Pirate Soccer Shootout this weekend, the Pirates (2-0) are nationally ranked for the first time since the October 30, 2007. AASU is one of three Peach Belt Conference schools that appear in the rankings, joining Columbus State (No. 5) and UNC Pembroke (T-No. 25).

In the five seasons of AASU soccer, the Pirates have risen as high as No. 8 in the coaches poll on two occasions - on Sept. 25 and Oct. 2, 2007.  

The NSCAA Southeast Region rankings have the Pirates at No. 2. The NSCAA publishes region and national rankings each week of the season, voted on by member coaches.

The Pirates will take their new national ranking into the GCSU First Bobcat Shootout this weekend in Milledgeville, Ga. AASU faces Florida Tech on Friday, September 4, at 5:30 p.m.
