Kristin Burton Earns Record-Tying 10th PBC Weekly Honor

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State senior forward Kristin Burton has been named the Peach Belt Conference's women's soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday, her league-record tying 10th career Player of the Week honor.
Only one other student-athlete in Peach Belt Conference history has earned 10 weekly honors from the league - softball player Annie Sells, who competed at AASU from 1999-2002 and was a nine-time Pitcher of the Week and one-time Player of the Week honoree in her four seasons with the Pirates.
Burton, the PBC's leading goal scorer this season, tallied a pair of goals and an assist as the No. 19-ranked Pirates went unbeaten in two matches last week. She scored the match-tying goal in the 83rd minute at Sunshine State Conference-preseason favorite Saint Leo on Thursday, helping the Pirates earn a 1-1 tie with the Lions. She then had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 PBC-opening win over Lander.
This is her first weekly honor of the 2009 season. Burton was the PBC's Player of the Week three times as a freshman in 2006, twice as a sophomore in 2007 and four times as a junior in 2008.
The Ocala, Fla., native continues her assault on the all-time PBC goal scoring record - with 71 career goals, Burton is just 12 shy of the all-time league record of 83, set by Olaitan Yusuf of Clayton State from 2004-07.
Burton and the Pirates are next in action on Wednesday, September 16, with a key 4:00 p.m. Southeast region match at Wingate.
