Lady Pirates Finish 13th At Queens (NC) Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2009-10 season with a 13th place finish at the Queens (NC) Invitational on Tuesday at the TPC Sawgrass Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
The Lady Pirates shot a second-round 344 to finish the tournament with a two-day 681 total. Ashland earned a one-stroke victory over Newberry with a two-day 626 total, while first-round co-leader Belmont Abbey slipped to third with a 629 total. Carson-Newman (630) and Barry (637) rounded out the top five in the 15-team field.
Junior Carrie George shot the day's best round for the Lady Pirates, carding an 82 and finsihing the tournament tied for 47th with a 170 total. Junior Sarah Johns shot an 88 on Tuesday and finished tied for 51st with a 171 total. Freshman Kelly Pearce stumbled after a first-round 78 to post a 94 on Tuesday, finishing tied for 53rd with a 174 total.
Sophomore Victoria Bennett shot a second-round 86 and finished tied for 57th. Sophomore Kim Knox rounded out the AASU scoring with an 88 on Tuesday, finishing in 69th place with a 180 total.
The Lady Pirates will return to action on October 5-6 at the 10th Annual Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
