Lacey Willis Earns 4th PBC Player of the Week Honor

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State senior forward Lacey Willis has been named the Peach Belt Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, the final weekly award for the 2008-09 season, announced today by league officials.
It is Willis' fourth weekly Player of the Week honor this season as she also earned the honor on November 24, December 1 and December 8. She is the first AASU player to earn four weekly honors in the same season since Tasha Washington accomplished the feat in 2003-04.
Willis averaged 22 points and 14 rebounds as the Lady Pirates won twice on the week to finish the regular season tied for third in the PBC standings, the best regular season finish for AASU since the team won two South Division titles in 2002-03 and 2003-04. She began the week with 22 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in AASU's 92-91 overtime upset of No. 7 Francis Marion on Wednesday in Florence, S.C.
She then registered 22 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in the Lady Pirates' 71-64 win over Lander on Saturday. Against Lander, she moved into fifth place on the AASU all-time scoring chart as she now has 1,223 points in her career. Willis currently ranks third in the Peach Belt in scoring (17.0 ppg), sixth in rebounding (8.2 rpg) and fourth in field goal percentage (53.3).
The Lady Pirates open up action in the 2009 PBC Championships on Thursday, March 5, with a 3:00 p.m. Quarterfinal matchup against Lander in Aiken, S.C.
