No. 19 Francis Marion Steals A 75-61 Victory Over AASU


SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 19-ranked Francis Marion women's basketball team recorded 23 steals in a 75-61 Peach Belt Conference victory over host Armstrong Atlantic on Monday evening in Savannah.

The win was the eighth straight for the Patriots (17-1, 10-1 PBC), while the Lady Pirates (11-8, 6-6 PBC) suffered their sixth loss in their last seven games.

Francis Marion forced 33 turnovers and enjoyed a healthy 40-15 advantage in points off turnovers against the Lady Pirates. Kevin Ransom led the charge with 20 points off the bench on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and 8-of-9 shooting from the free throw line. She recorded five steals as well. Shannon Singleton-Bates recorded 17 points and eight rebounds, while Shana Franks chipped in 14 points for the Patriots.

AASU was led by Lacey Willis, who scored a game-high 21 points, helped out by an 11-of-12 night from the free throw line. Dartayvia Thomas recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelly Versluis added seven points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Lady Pirates return to action on Wednesday, February 4, with a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest at Georgia Southwestern State.
