No. 24 Lakers Notch 90-41 Win Over Lady Pirates


MORROW, Ga. - The No. 24-ranked Clayton State women's basketball team forced 28 turnovers by Armstrong Atlantic State, recording 21 steals in picking up a 90-41 Peach Belt Conference victory over the Lady Pirates on Monday evening in Morrow.

The Lady Lakers (19-4, 13-3 PBC) swept the season series from Armstrong Atlantic with the win, while picking up their seventh win in a row. The Lady Pirates (14-10, 9-8 PBC) were held below 45 points scored for the fourth time this season.

The second matchup between the two PBC rivals mirrored the first meeting on January 28, when AASU turned the ball over 39 times and shot just 26 percent from the field. This time, Clayton State jumped out to a 40-24 lead at halftime, then began the second half on a 23-9 run.

Brittany Hall led all scorers for Clayton State with 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-7 three-pointers, as well as 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Leshena Stevens added 14 points and eight assists, while Dominique Jennings chipped in 12 points off the bench on a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range.

Lacey Willis led the Lady Pirates with 12 points and eight rebounds on the night, while Portia Jones came off the bench to chip in 10 points.

AASU returns to action on Thursday, February 19, with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Columbus State at Alumni Arena.
