Clayton State Breezes Past Lady Pirates, 76-42

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Clayton State women's basketball team forced a season-high 39 turnovers in picking up a 76-42 Peach Belt Conference victory over host Armstrong Atlantic on Wednesday evening at Alumni Arena.

The Lady Lakers (13-4, 7-3 PBC) converted those turnovers into 44 points, while Armstrong Atlantic (11-6, 6-4 PBC) compounded the problem by making just six field goals in each half and shooting just 26.1 percent from the floor.

A three-point play by the Lady Pirates' Kelly Versluis gave AASU a 7-5 lead with 14:49 left in the first half. Over the next seven and a half minute stretch, however, the Lady Lakers would embark on an 18-0 run as AASU would miss its next 14 shots from the floor, giving Clayton State an insurmountable 23-7 lead with 8:53 left until intermission.

For AASU, the 39 turnovers were the most in a game since the Lady Pirates turned it over a school-record 45 times against Fayetteville State on November 26, 1999.

Clayton State placed four players in double figures, led by Nikkisha Pritchett's 19 points off the bench. Brittany Hall added 17 points, while Tanisha Woodard chipped in 11 points, five assist and five steals. Lisa Jackson notched 10 points, all in the second half.

The Lady Pirates were led by Lacey Willis' 13 points, while Versluis added 10 points and Dartayvia Thomas notched nine points and eight rebounds.

AASU returns to action on Saturday, January 31, with a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest at No. 23 USC Aiken.
