AASU's Lacey Willis Earns Third Straight PBC Player of the Week Honor

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State senior Lacey Willis has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third straight week, announced today by league officials. She is the first PBC player to earn the honor three straight times since the 1993-94 season.

Willis led the Lady Pirates (6-1, 2-0 PBC) to two Peach Belt wins on the week. She scored 26 points in AASU's come-from-behind 72-67 win at UNC Pembroke on Tuesday, scoring 18 of her game-high 26 in a second half that saw the Lady Pirates erase a 19-point deficit. She then had 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Pirates knocked off No. 7 USC Aiken, 63-55, on Saturday.

The Dublin, Ga., native averaged 23 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in the two games, while hitting 60 percent of her shots from the floor and 100 percent from the free throw line (8-of-8). She currently leads the PBC in scoring at 21.0 ppg and ranks fifth in rebounding (8.4 rpg) and fourth in field goal percentage (59.4 percent).

She is the first player in the PBC to earn three consecutive Player of the Week honors since Jeanette Polk of Augusta State in the first three weeks of the 1993-94 season. She is also the first AASU player to earn three Player of the Week honors in the same season since Tasha Washington was a four-time Player of the Week honoree in the 2003-04 season.

Willis and the Lady Pirates are currently off for final exams, but will return to action on Friday, December 19, with a 6:00 p.m. contest against No. 16-ranked Wingate in the 2008 Chatham Orthopedics Holiday Classsic.
