North Georgia Hands Lady Pirates Second Straight Loss, 62-46

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball squad suffered a second-straight subpar shooting night in dropping a 62-46 Peach Belt Conference women's basketball decision to visiting North Georgia on Monday evening at Alumni Arena.

Despite the return of leading scorer Lacey Willis to the floor, the Lady Pirates (10-4, 5-2 PBC) shot just 22.4 percent, hitting just 15-of-58 shots overall. AASU also missed its first 15 three-point attempts on the night and finished just 2-of-17 from beyond the arc for 11.8 percent.

North Georgia (5-10, 2-6 PBC) avenged an earlier-season loss to the Lady Pirates behind the play of All-American Syretha Marble, who scored a game-high 18 points - 13 in the second half - to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double. Marble hit her first six shots and finished the night 7-of-10 from the floor, while also making 4-of-5 free throws. Meredith Montgomery chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Lady Saints.

The Lady Pirates were led by Portia Jones' 11 points and Dartayvia Thomas' 10 points. Kelly Versluis notched a career-high 15 rebounds, besting her previous high of 11 rebounds, set against Columbus State in the PBC Semifinal round on March 8.

The 46-point output was the second straight contest in which AASU failed to reach 50 points, as AASU lost to GCSU, 74-45, on Wednesday. It's the first time that an AASU women's basketball team has failed to reach 50 points in back-to-back games since January 10th and 12th, 1991, when AASU lost to Rollins, 62-43, and USC Aiken, 61-43.

The Lady Pirates return to action on Thursday, January 22, with a 5:30 p.m. Peach Belt contest at Columbus State.
