Lady Pirates Defeat Concord, 78-76, In Mountain Lion Classic


CONCORD, W. Va. - The Armstrong Atlantic State women's basketball squad finished the Concord Mountain Lion Classic with a 78-76 victory over the host Mountain Lions on Sunday afternoon in Concord, W. Va.

The Lady Pirates (2-0) built a 12-point halftime lead, 45-33, hitting 16-of-28 shots from the floor in the first half. AASU then closed out the game by making 11-of-12 free throws after the break and holding on for the two-point win.

Senior Lacey Willis led all scorers on the afternoon with 18 points, including 8-of-10 from the free throw line, to go with six rebounds. Senior Ashley Duhart chipped in a career-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-5 three-pointers, while senior Lindsey Holmes collected 14 points, also hitting four three-pointers on the day.

Concord (0-2) was led by Meghan Cole's 16 points, Sierra Brown's 15 points and Amber Showalter's 13 points.

AASU had an outstanding day from beyond the arc, hitting 12-of-22 shots from three-point range for 54.5 percent.

The Lady Pirates return to action on Thursday, November 20, with a 5:30 p.m. matchup at Pfeiffer.
