
SAVANNAH, Ga. ? The Armstrong Atlantic women's basketball team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2008-09 season. The Lady Pirates, who won 20 games last season and advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Championship game, will host 12 home games and take on several tough non-conference opponents.
The Lady Pirates begin action on the road, visiting West Virginia for the Concord University Lady Lion Classic on November 15 and 16. AASU will take on NCAA participant Fairmont State and host Concord in the tournament. A road trip to new region foe Pfeiffer on November 20 precedes the home opener for Armstrong Atlantic on November 25 against Newberry. AASU finishes off November's action with a date at Limestone on the 29th.
AASU opens the 20-game Peach Belt Conference slate in December with a road game at UNC Pembroke on the 1st, followed by a home contest against USC Aiken on the 6th. The 2008 Chatham Orthopedics Holiday Classic will feature the Lady Pirates against NCAA participant Wingate on December 19, followed by NCAA participant Valdosta State on December 20, wrapping up AASU's games before the new year.
January begins the rest of the league slate as AASU hosts North Georgia on January 5, then Georgia Southwestern State on the 7th before traveling to Augusta State on the 10th. GCSU comes to Savannah on the 14th, followed by North Georgia on the 19th. The Lady Pirates visit Columbus State on the 22nd, then travel to Greenwood, S.C., for a rematch of the PBC Championship game with Lander on the 24th. A home game with Clayton State on the 28th and a road game at USC Aiken on the 31st finish off the month.
AASU alternates home and away games all throughout the month of February, beginning with a home game on the 2nd against Francis Marion, followed by a road game at Georgia Southwestern State on the 4th. UNC Pembroke visits Savannah on the 7th, then a trip to GCSU on the 11th is followed by a home date with Augusta State on Valentine's Day, the 14th. The Lady Pirates visit Clayton State on the 16th, host Columbus State on the 19th, then wrap up the regular season with a road game at Francis Marion on the 25th before the home finale against Lander on the 28th.
The 2009 Peach Belt Conference Basketball Championships take place on March 4-8 at the Convocation Center on the campus of USC Aiken. The NCAA South Atlantic Regional will be from March 13-16.
The Lady Pirates play 10 of its 27 games against teams that appeared in the 2008-09 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships, and AASU will be looking to knock off a nationally-ranked team for a ninth straight season.
