Kutztown Sweeps AASU Softball, 3-2 and 4-1

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Kutztown's Steph Denlinger tied the NCAA Division II home run record with a first-inning two-run shot, helping the visiting Golden Bears sweep past host Armstrong Atlantic on Saturday afternooon with 3-2, 4-1 wins over the Pirates at the AASU Softball Field.
Denlinger's homers gives the Golden Bears (12-5) senior first baseman 62 in her career, bringing her even with Wisconsin-Parkside's Jackie Aiken, who had 62 home runs from 1994-97. The two-run shot sparked Kutztown to the 3-2 win one as Katlin Arbogast hurled a six-hitter, giving up two runs - one earned - and one walk while striking out five.
Freshman Baillie Temples had a solo shot to lead the Pirates (12-12) in game one. Courtney alvarez took the loss, giving up seven hits and three runs in seven innings, striking out six.
In game two, Kutztown jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first three innings, then held on for the victory.
Monica Glomb limited the Pirates to just four hits and one run, striking out six, to pick up the win. Emily Headrick took the loss for AASU, giving up six hits and four runs - two earned - in five innings pitched, walking three while striking out five.
Nicole Huddleston had an RBI double for the Pirates in game two, while Maria Schiavo, Ashley Fitzgerald and Krista Cameron each had two hits for the Golden Bears.
The Pirates return to action on Monday, March 9, with a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Columbus State at the AASU Softball Field.
