Softball Loses, 8-4, To Florida Tech In Silver Division


ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad wrapped up action in the Eckerd Invitational with an 8-4 loss to Florida Tech in the Silver Division on Sunday morning.

The Pirates (8-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Sam Floyd and Nicole Huddleston, but the Panthers got back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles from Brianna Barth, Sasha Stepaniuk and Reanna Witt in a four-run third inning to take a 4-2 lead.

AASU tied things up in the bottom of the third on RBI singles from Jessica Strong and Ashley Bain, but the Panthers would clinch the game with two-run frames in the fifth and sixth innings.

Courtney Alvarez (2-3) took the loss for the Pirates, hurling 4 1/3 innings, giving up eight hits and six runs - five earned - while Barth hurled the complete game for the Panthers (3-6), giving up nine hits and four runs in seven innings, striking out four.

Floyd collected three hits on the day, while Baillie Temples added two hits for the Pirates. Barth aided her own cause with three hits in three at-bats, including two RBIs.

AASU returns to action on Wednesday, February 25, with its home opener and Peach Belt Conference opener against Lander at 1:00 p.m. at the AASU Softball Field.
