Four Pirates Earn All-PBC Softball Honors

FLORENCE, S.C. - Four members of the Armstrong Atlantic State softball squad have been named to the 2009 All-Peach Belt Conference squad, released late Thursday night at the league's annual banquet prior to the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Softball Championships.
Senior outfielder Sam Floyd, junior first baseman Nicole Huddleston and freshman pitcher Emily Headrick were each named to the first team, while senior outfielder Jessica Strong was named to the second team.
Floyd, a native of Rossville, Ga., earns her second straight All-PBC honor for leading the Pirates in hitting with a .377 average, three home runs and 24 RBI as well as a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen base attempts. She also went 5-2 with a 2.74 ERA in 12 appearances as a pitcher.
Huddleston, who also hails from Rossville, earns her first All-PBC honor after htiting .310 with a PBC-leading 15 doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBI. She also ranks sixth in the PBC in RBIs, fourth in walks with 21 and tied for sixth in home runs.
Headrick also earns her first All-PBC honor after being named the PBC's Freshman of the Week three times this season. She went 10-6 with a 2.43 ERA and one save in 26 appearances this season, but was more impressive against league opponents, going 6-1 with a 1.29 ERA. She threw AASU's first no-hitter since 2003 against Lander on February 25.
Strong earns her first All-PBC honor for ranking second on the squad in batting average at .368, with 10 doubles, three home runs and 27 RBI.
The four All-Conference honorees are the most for an AASU softball squad since 2004, when the Pirates placed five players on the team.
AASU is in action Friday morning in the first round of the PBC Tournament, taking on Augusta State at 11:00 a.m.
