Pirates Finish Second Day At GT Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - Four members of the Armstrong Atlantic State men's tennis team are still alive after the second day of the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational in Atlanta on Sunday.
The Pirates have one doubles team reach the final of the B Doubles bracket - freshman Daniel Regan and junior Jose Carlos Tolentino won twice on Sunday, beating the fourth-seeded duo of Jorne and Taylor from Auburn, 8-4, and the second-seeded duo of Cooprider and Ziamtsov of UNC Wilmington, 8-6. The pair will play the third-seeded duo of Hirsh and Pereira from UNCW on Monday.
AASU's other doubles duo of Rafael Array and Mikk Irdoja reached the semifinals of the A Doubles bracket after a 9-8 (4) upset of the second-seeded team of Fago and Williams from Tennessee, but they fell to Muguruza and Smith of host Georgia Tech, 8-6, in the semis.
In singles action, Irdoja lost to sixth-seeded Christian Vitulli of Georgia, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, in the A Singles main draw. Playing in the consolation draw, Array defeated UNCW's Ryan Ybarra, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, and South Alabama's Romain Bocaert, 6-1, 6-4, to reach the semifinals, where he will play Michael Pereira on Monday.
Regan fell to top-seeded Illia Ziamtsov of UNC Wilmington, 6-3, 6-0, in the B Singles main draw, while Paul Fitzgerald is still alive in the B Singles consolation draw. Fitzgerald defeated Jon Pine of Virginia Tech, 7-5, 6-2, and Taylor Patrick of Tennessee, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, to reach the semifinals, where he will face Tanner Brown on Monday.
The Georgia Tech Fall Invitational wraps up on Monday with action beginning at 8:00 a.m.
