Mikk Irdoja Named PBC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Sophomore Armstrong Atlantic State men's tennis player Mikk Irdoja has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week for the second time this season, announced today by league officials.
The No. 25-ranked singles and No. 5-ranked doubles player in the nation, Irdoja went 3-0 in singles and doubles for the top-ranked Pirates this week. The Tallinn, Estonia, native started with a 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 22 Anderson (S.C.)’s Navaneetha Baskaran on Friday, then defeated No. 18 Lander’s Juan Manrique, 6-2, 6-2, on Saturday and finished with a 6-2, 6-1 win over North Georgia’s Samuel Moore on Sunday.
In doubles play, Irdoja teamed with Paul Bishop to defeat Anderson’s Assuncao and Pakebusch, 8-3, and Lander’s Valle and Wali, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. He then teamed with Paul Fitzgerald to beat North Georgia's Sloan and Ridley, 8-0, on Sunday. Irdoja has compiled a 19-2 singles and 18-4 doubles dual match record this season.
Irdoja was previously honored as the league's Player of the Week on March 10. The Pirates will head to the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Championships as the No. 2 seed and will begin play on Friday, April 17, in Jonesboro, Ga.
