Chris Wolfe Qualifies For U.S. Amateur

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Former three-time AASU All-American men's golfer Chris Wolfe has earned a spot in the upcoming U.S. Amateur after earning one of five qualifying spots in this week's USGA Sectional Qualifier in Woodstock, Ga.
Wolfe fired consecutive rounds of 67 at the Capital City Country Club, finishing tied for second with a 10-under-par 134 score, just one stroke off the lead. His finish secures him a spot in the the 109th U.S. Amateur on August 24-30 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
Wolfe is the second Pirate to earn a spot in the U.S. Amateur, joining former AASU All-American and Savannah native Chris Epperson, who participated in the 104th U.S. Amateur in 2004.
The Warner Robins, Ga., native will be in action in Savannah this week, playing in the 27th Oglethorpe Invitational at the Wilmington Island Club. Wolfe will be one of eight former, current or incoming Pirates in the field, joining sophomores Matthew Motes and Dustin Allen, as well as incoming freshmen Justin Wylie and Jacob Tilton. Former Pirates Tripp Coggins, Wills Smith and Ryan Wilson will also participate.
