Pirates Finish 17th At AFLAC/Cougar Invitational


COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team fired a final-round 290 to finish 17th at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational, hosted by Columbus State University, on Tuesday at the Green Island Country Club.

The Pirates shaved eight strokes off of their first-round 298 total to finish the tournament with a two-day 588 score, 20-over-par. Barry University won the event after shooting a 278 on Tuesday and finishing with a 51 total, 10 strokes ahead of North Alabama (571). Barton (572), Valdosta State (575) and Lander (575) rounded out the top five in the 21-team field.

Freshman Tyler Erickson carded a one-under-par 70 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a one-under-par 141 total, tying for sixth individually. Sophomore Matt Motes also shot a one-under-par 70 in  his second round, finishing tied for 25th with a two-day 144 total. Junior Aaron Elrod carded a 75 on Tuesday and finished tied for 84th with a two-day 152 total.

Junior Ridge Purcell shot a 76 to also finish with a two-day 152 total, tying for 84th. Freshman Jacob Tilton rounded out the AASU scoring after shooting a 75 on Tuesday, finishing tied for 96th with a 155 total.

AASU returns to action on October 12-13 at the Queens (NC) Invitational, being played at the TPC Sawgrass Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
