Men's Golf 20th At NCAA Southeast/South Super Regional

FLORENCE, Ala. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's golf team started slowly out of the gate, going nine-over in the first three holes and finishing the first round of the 2009 NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional with a 308 total, putting the Pirates in 20th place.
Host North Alabama leads the 20-team regional field after shooting a first-round 7-under par 281 total, to lead by four strokes over Lynn (285) and by seven strokes over Barry (288). West Florida (289) and Columbus State (290) round out the top five.
Senior Chris Wolfe led the Pirates individually with a first-round even-par 72, tying for 17th individually in the 108-player field. Wolfe closed strong, shooting a 2-under-par 34 on the back nine.
Junior Jon Wingate is tied for 79th place after shooting a six-over-par 78 on Monday. Sophomore Parker Gordon is tied for 87th after a first-round 7-over-par 79, as did freshman Matt Motes. Sophomore David Patterson is 107th after a first-round 87, rounding out the AASU scoring.
Play continues on Tuesday with a single round of 18 holes. The Pirates will tee off beginning at 8:20 a.m. Central. The regional concludes with a single round on Wednesday. The top five finishers in the 20-team regional advance to the 2009 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships in Blaine, Wash., on May 19-22.
