T.T. Hall Awarded 55th Annual Ashley Dearing Cup

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State senior guard T.T. Hall was awarded the 55th annual Ashley Dearing Cup today for leading the 2008-09 Pirate men’s basketball team in free throw percentage.
A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., Hall hit 88-of-113 free throws this season for a 77.9 percentage, ranking eighth in the Peach Belt Conference. He improved tremendously from his junior season, where he hit 58.7 percent, and he finished the 2008-09 season by making 26 of his last 29 free throws over the Pirates’ last six games of the season.
On the season, Hall averaged 13.0 points per game, ranking second on the team and 15th in the Peach Belt Conference, while also ranking among the league’s leaders in steals (1.83 per game) and three-point field goals made (1.90).
The award, established by long-time Savannah area sports supporter Ashley Dearing, was instituted in 1954 to emphasize the importance of the free throw. Today’s award was presented by Ashley’s wife, Angela, and son, Kennon. The Savannah community lost Dearing, an Armstrong Atlantic State Athletic Hall of Fame citation winner, in late March, but the family has committed to continuing the Ashley Dearing Cup in his honor.
