Dwight Tolbert, Brian Moultrie Earn All-PBC Men's Basketball Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Senior Brian Moultrie and junior Dwight Tolbert have been named to the 2008-09 All-Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball team, announced today on the eve of the 2009 PBC Tournament by league officials. The duo will lead the third-seeded and No. 23-ranked Pirates into action in the PBC Quarterfinals on Friday, March 6, against sixth-seeded Francis Marion at 5:00 p.m. in Aiken, S.C.
Both players earn All-PBC honors for the first time for the Pirates as Tolbert was named to the five-man first team and Moultrie was named to the five-man second team. AASU has now had two All-Conference players in four of the last five seasons under head coach Jeff Burkhamer.
Tolbert joins Chris Commons of USC Aiken, Shaun Keaton of GCSU and Ben Madgen and Garret Siler of Augusta State on the first team. The Tifton, Ga., native ranks seventh in the PBC in scoring (15.3 ppg), second in three-point field goals made (2.65 per game) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.408). He has reached double digit scoring in 22 games this season and was the league's Player of the Week on March 2.
Moultrie joins Javonte Clanton and Josh Dollard of USC Aiken, LaBrian Lyons of North Georgia and Anthony Sargent of Georgia Southwestern on the second team. The Beaufort, S.C., native ranks second in the PBC in field goal percentage (.647), a rate that is also on pace to be the second-best field goal percentage in AASU history. He also ranks ninth in the PBC in rebounding (6.8 rpg) 11th in blocked shots (0.96 per game) and 18th in scoring (12.6 ppg). He was the league's Player of the Week back on January 5 and set an Alumni Arena record with 19 rebounds against West Virginia Wesleyan on December 29, a game that also included a PBC-record 14 offensive rebounds.
Both players will attempt to lead AASU to its first-ever PBC Tournament title this week at the USC Aiken Convocation Center. If the Pirates advance past Francis Marion on Friday, they will face the winner of No. 2 seed USC Aiken and the Georgia Southwestern/Clayton State winner on Saturday, March 7, at 8:00 p.m. The 2009 PBC Tournament Championship game will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8.
