Dwight Tolbert Named PBC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State junior forward Dwight Tolbert has been named the Peach Belt Conference men's basketball Player of the Week, the final weekly award of the 2008-09 season, announced today by league officials.

Tolbert averaged 26.5 points per game in helping AASU to two wins on the week as the Pirates secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference tournament. He started the week by scoring 22 points in AASU's 77-66 overtime win at Francis Marion, including hitting the game-tying jumper with five seconds left in regulation to send the game into an extra period.

On Saturday, Tolbert scored a season-high 29 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 2-of-4 three-pointers, as well as a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line - just one shy of the school single-game record for free throw percentage of 14-of-14, set by David Rich (1969) and David Koncul (2000). For the week, Tolbert shot 48.1 percent from the field, 63.6 percent from three-point range and 95.1 percent from the free throw line.

Tolbert is the second AASU player to earn Player of the Week honors this season, joining Brian Moultrie (Jan. 5). He currently ranks seventh in the PBC in scoring (15.3 ppg), second in three-point baskets made per game (2.63) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage (40.8)

AASU travels to the 2009 PBC Championships, opening action on Friday, March 6, with a 5:00 p.m. Quarterfinal matchup against Francis Marion in Aiken, S.C.
