No. 15 Pirates Halt Two-Game Slide With 61-52 Win

AMERICUS, Ga. - Senior Calvin Wilson notched 18 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds as No. 15-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State halted its two-game slide with a 61-52 Peach Belt Conference men's basketball victory over Georgia Southwestern State on Wednesday evening in Americus.

The Pirates (16-4, 9-4 PBC) swept the season series from the Hurricanes (8-12, 4-9 PBC), after winning the earlier meeting, 74-64, in Savannah on January 9.

Armstrong Atlantic opened up an eight-point halftime lead, 39-31, as Wilson scored 11 points before intermission. In the second half, it was Wilson's defense that helped the Pirates hold off the Hurricanes. Outrebounded by Georgia Southwestern by three in the first half, 23-20, Wilson and the Pirates stepped up on the boards - Wilson grabbed 11 in the second half alone and AASU outrebounded the Hurricanes, 23-13, in the final 20 minutes.

Wilson tied his career high with 18 points - set twice previously this season - while also grabbing 14 boards to lead all players for AASU. Dwight Tolbert chipped in 15 points, while T.T. Hall added 12 points.

Georgia Southwestern was led by Anthony Sargent's 16 points and Chris Rawls' double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.

AASU returns to action on Saturday, February 7, with a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest against UNC Pembroke in Savannah.
