Pirates Set School, PBC Record In 125-43 Win Over Temple Baptist

CHARLESTON, W. Va. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team set a new school and Peach Belt Conference record for margin of victory in a 125-43 win over Temple Baptist of Cincinnati on Saturday, closing out action in the University of Charleston (W. Va.) Subway Classic.
The Pirates' 82-point win eclipses the league record of a 74-point victory by USC Aiken, over Johnson & Wales on November 18, 1998 (W 135-61). It also eclipses the school record of a 75-point victory by the Pirates on December 1, 1989, in a 122-47 win over Embry-Riddle. The Pirates scored the most points in a game since 1991 and it is tied for the fifth-most points scored in a single game in AASU men's basketball history.
AASU (3-0) got off to a quick start for a second straight game as the Pirates scored the first 15 points of the contest in the first four and a half minutes against Temple Baptist (0-4). The Pirates led at halftime, 70-16, hitting 57 percent of their shots from the field and finished the game making 50-of-87 shots from the floor.
The Pirates outrebounded Temple Baptist, 60-22, and recorded 23 steals on the night, forcing 30 turnovers.
All 13 players who saw playing time for the Pirates scored at least six points in the contest, and AASU placed six players in double figures, led by Brian Moultrie and Dwight Tolbert, who each collected 15 points. Marquise Duvall and Keron McKenzie added 13 points each, while Calvin Wilson and Patrick Shokpeka each chipped in 10 points.
Temple Baptist was led by Thomas Burton's nine points and Corey Scott and Rick Trimble's eight points apiece.
AASU returns to action on Tuesday, December 2, by opening up Peach Belt Conference action with a 7:30 p.m. contest at UNC Pembroke.
