Moultrie, Pirates Down Lock Haven, 81-57

CHARLESTON, W. Va. - Senior Brian Moultrie notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball team to an 81-57 victory over Lock Haven in the first day of the University of Charleston (W. Va.) Subway Classic.

The Pirates (2-0) played well defensively against the Bald Eagles (1-3), holding Lock Haven to just 31 percent shooting from the floor, 2-of-20 from three-point range and recording 13 steals on the night.

AASU opened up the night by scoring the game's first 12 points, including two three-pointers by senior T.T. Hall, and pushed that lead to 16 at halftime, 37-21. Lock Haven did not get closer than that in the second half as the Pirates shot 48.6 percent from the floor after intermission.

Moultrie led a trio of AASU players in double figures, and his double-double was the second as a Pirate - his other double-double coming on Dec. 28, 2007, with 13 points and 10 rebounds against Virginia State. Junior Dwight Tolbert made his Pirate debut and scored 13 points, while Hall finished the night with 11 points. In all, 12 different Pirates scored at least one point on the night.

Lock Haven was led by Billy Arre's double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Eric Brennan added 10 points.

The Pirates wrap up action in the Subway Classic with a 2:00 p.m. contest against Cincinnati Temple Baptist on Saturday. Lock Haven faces host Charleston (W. Va.) at 4:00 p.m.
