AASU's Franchot Brown Drafted By Wilmington Of The PBL

CHICAGO, Ill. - Former Armstrong Atlantic State men's basketball player Franchot Brown was taken with the first pick in second round of the 2008 Premier Basketball League (PBL) Entry Draft by the Wilmington Sea Dawgs earlier this month, becoming the first Pirate basketball player to be selected in a US professional league draft in more than 25 years.

The Washington Wilkes, Ga., native was taken with the 15th overall pick by the Sea Dawgs, who are in their third year of the PBL. Wilmington was 11-7 in 2008 and drew 8,736 fans to their 10 home games. The 2009 season begins for the Sea Dawgs on January 3, 2009.

Brown played two years for the Pirates after transferring to AASU from Aiken Tech. As a senior in 2007-08, Brown averaged 6.3 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game, ranking 12th in the Peach Belt Conference in rebounding average.

He is the first player known to be drafted by a domestic professional league since Ray Smith was taken in the eighth round of the 1982 NBA draft by the Seattle Supersonics.
