Four Pirates Earn All-PBC Baseball Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Four members of the Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad earned All-PBC honors on Friday, announced by league officials prior to this weekend's 2009 PBC Baseball Championships.

Senior Cody Walden made the All-PBC first team as a starting pitcher, while junior Alex Wyche nabbed an outfield spot on the first team. Senior Kenny Cail was named the second-team first baseman and junior Thomas Gray was a second-team selection as a starting pitcher.

Walden is 11-1 this season with a 3.32 ERA, leading the Peach Belt Conference in victories. The Tucson, Ariz., native is one win shy of the national lead, as well as the AASU single-season record of 12 wins, held by three other pitchers. Wyche, meanwhile, leads the Pirates in hitting and ranks fifth in the PBC. The Macon, Ga., native is hitting .398 with six triples, six home runs and a team-high 55 RBI.

Cail earns his first All-PBC honor in his third season with the Pirates. The Savannah native is hitting .364 with 18 doubles, five home runs and 50 RBI - his second season of 50+ RBIs at AASU. Gray earns his first All-Conference honor by going 8-4 with a 2.80 ERA, with 81 strikeouts in 99.2 innings pitched.

AASU opens up action in the 2009 PBC Championships on Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. first round game against North Georgia. The eight team, single-elimination format concludes on Sunday with the semifinals and finals in Aiken, S.C., at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
