AASU Enters Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 30 Poll

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad has cracked the Collegiate Baseball's DII Top 30 Coaches Poll for the first time this season, entering the rankings at No. 22 affter the release of the May 4 rankings.
The Pirates (38-17, 15-12 PBC) went 4-0 on the week, including a three-game sweep of Lander, to wrap up the regular season. Since a slow start to the season that saw AASU begin the year with a 6-8 mark, but an 18-game winning streak in March, coupled with a 11-1 finish to the regular season has helped lift the Pirates into regional contention.
AASU is one of five teams ranked in this week's poll. PBC regular season champion USC Aiken is No. 2, while Francis Marion is tied for No. 9 and Georgia College & State is No. 17. AASU is tied at No. 22 with Mesa State, while UNC Pembroke is tied for 29th.
This is the first poll the Pirates have appeared in since April 7, 2008, when AASU was ranked No. 24.
The Pirates will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference Tournament, which will take place on May 9-10 in Aiken, S.C. AASU will face No. 4 seed North Georgia at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. The semifinals and finals will both take place on Sunday, May 10.
