Jeff Chase Hurls Pirates To 6-1 Win At Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Senior Jeff Chase hurled a complete-game four-hitter, striking out seven, to give the Armstrong Atlantic State baseball squad a 6-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over host Lander on Friday evening at Legion Field in Greenwood, S.C.
The Pirates (36-17, 13-12 PBC) have now won nine of their last 10 contests with the victory, while handing the Bearcats (25-21, 8-15 PBC) have dropped eight of their last nine.
AASU jumped on the board in the first inning as Kenny Cail's squeeze bunt scored Josh Wilson with the first run of the ball game. The Pirates then stretched the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third with three runs, highlighted by Drew Walker's two-run home run.
Lander picked up a run in the fourth on a solo home run by Bud Lanier, but the Pirates added single runs in the fifth and sixth to give Chase enough cushion for the victory.
Chase improved to 6-3 on the season with the complete-game win, his first complete game of the season. The senior gave up four hits and walked three while striking out seven. Lander's Ches Courtney (0-3) took the loss for the Bearcats, giving up five hits and five runs in four innings pitched, walking two while striking out three.
Carlos Cardoza-Oquendo was the only player for AASU to pick up two hits, while Josh Wilson scored a pair of runs and Walker drove in two with his fourth homer of the season. Nate Mangiapane collected two hits to lead the Bearcats at the plate.
The two teams wrap up the regular season with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday at Legion Field.
