Thomas Gray Named PBC Pitcher of the Week

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Junior Thomas Gray has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, announced today by league officials.

Gray pitched eight innings of three-hit ball as the Pirates completed a three-game shutout of Columbus State in the series finale with a 5-0 win on Sunday. The junior walked only one and struck out six while giving up three singles, not allowing a runner past second base.

The Ringgold, Ga., native improved to 7-3 with the victory and his 2.65 ERA currently ranks third in the Peach Belt, while his 72 strikeouts also rank third and his .225 opponents' batting average ranks fourth.

Gray was previously named the PBC Pitcher of the Week on February 10, and he is the first AASU pitcher to earn league Pitcher of the Week honors twice in the same season since former Major Leaguer Adam Bernero was twice the PBC's Pitcher of the Week in 1999.

Gray and the Pirates return to action on Saturday, April 25, when they host Augusta State for a 3:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest at Pirate Field.
