Men's Tennis Ranked No. 1; Women No. 3 In Latest Rankings

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's tennis squad has moved back to the top of the Division II Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings, released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Pirates are ranked No. 1, regaining the top ranking they held at the beginning of the year, while the AASU women are now ranked No. 3.
The Lady Pirates, however, also feature an individual No. 1 as
freshman Sona Novakova remains the top-ranked DII singles player in
the nation. Novakova is a perfect 15-0 in singles and 18-0 in
doubles this dual match season. Other singles rankings for the Lady
Pirates include sophomore Alida Muller-Wehlau at No. 16, junior
Gabriella Kovacs at No. 19 and junior Martina Beckmann at No.
30.
Beckmann and Muller-Wehlau are the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the nation, moving up two spots from the fall rankings. Also moving up are Novakova and Kovacs, who are now ranked No. 7 in the nation, up four spots from the fall.
On the men's side, freshman Edualdo Bonet is ranked No. 2 in the nation in singles, moving down one spot. Senior Paul Bishop is ranked No. 23 while sophomore Mikk Irdoja is ranked No. 25, earning his first national ranking as a Pirate.
The AASU men's and women's tennis teams return to action on Saturday, April 11, with a 2:00 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match at Lander.
