AASU Tops Among PBC In Learfield Sports/NACDA Director's Cup

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Armstrong Atlantic State has finished 55th in the 2008-09 Learfield Sports/NACDA Division II Director's Cup, released today in conjunction with the 44th Annual NACDA Convention in Orlando, Fla. The Pirates are the top Peach Belt school to appear in the yearly standings.
AASU received 303 points to finish 55th out of the 232 schools that received points in the standings - points which are earned by placing in seven men's and seven women's sports qualifying for the NCAA Championships. The Pirates earned 100 points each for the men's and women's tennis NCAA DII National Championships; 73 points for volleyball's Elite Eight appearance; 25 points for men's basketball's NCAA regionals appearance and five points for men's golf advancing to the NCAA regionals.
GCSU finished second among PBC schools in the standings with 298 points, placing 60th. Columbus State finished 63rd with 284 points, followed by Francis Marion (76th, 253) and USC Aiken (83rd, 246.50). Augusta State finished 95th with 218.30 points, giving the PBC six schools among the top 100.
Grand Valley State captured the Director's Cup with 1,014.50 points - since AASU sponsors only 10 sports, once again it would be mathematically impossible for the Pirates to capture the Cup.
