AASU Tennis Honored By Greater Savannah Sports Council

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Armstrong Atlantic State men's and women's tennis teams were honored on Tuesday afternoon by the Greater Savannah Sports Council with one of five 2009 Generations Awards at the organization's annual awards luncheon at the Hilton DeSoto in downtown Savannah.
The Pirates and Lady Pirates were recognized for their back-to-back NCAA Division II National Championships. The annual Generations Award is given to oustanding achievements by local individuals or teams for the previous calendar year. Also honored during the ceremony were state GISA AA football champion Memorial Day School, state HS men's golf champion John Skeadas III, NAIA National Champion SCAD's women's swimming and diving program and the Savannah State men's basketball program.
Head coach Simon Earnshaw accepted the award on behalf of the AASU men's and women's program. Pictured below are coach Earnshaw and assistant coach David Stecker, as well as members of the team that were in attendance at the awards luncheon: from the men's team, Rafael Array, Eudaldo Bonet, Paul Fitzgerald and Mikk Irdoja. From the women's team, Alida Muller-Wehlau, Martina Beckmann, Alisa Kagukina, Kathleen Henry, Sona Novakova and Tina Ronel.
